Potential solutions for the VW Passat B8 (saloon and Avant from year of manufacture 11/2014 on)
In 2015, Volkswagen Accessories changed the procedure for coding retrofits. The previous measure code was replaced by new coding routines from calendar week 45/2015 on.
The VW Passat B8 was one of the first vehicles in which this was implemented. When a towbar and the associated electrical kit is purchased, the customer receives a so-called activation document containing three activation codes. These are assigned to the VIN in the VW database and thus can only be used once. The vehicle cannot be activated in the VW system without these codes.
We would like to inform you of possible solutions for "independent garages", which facilitate the installation and also coding of Westfalia-Automotive towbars and electrical kits in the vehicle.
In order to activate various assistant systems, it may be necessary to program the vehicle for trailer operation. This is not the case if the legal minimum requirements (lighting functions, turn-signal monitoring, rear fog light switch-off) are also fulfilled without coding.
Westfalia-Automotive provides both options and still allows "independent garages" to retrofit a towbar in the VW Passat B8.
Autocode
Westfalia-Automotive will provide the Autocode coding device in future. Using this device the garage can carry out guided or manual coding of the vehicle to trailer operation in just a few steps.
ACC coding for the VW Passat B8 is currently possible with the "manual coding" function (from 11/2014 on). Several other vehicles can also be activated.
The manual device has an OBD plug and a USB cable for connection to a PC in order to copy software updates onto the device.
The coding device is available from March 2016 on and is a good alternative for garages who wish to code vehicles to trailer operation independently of the contract garage. Compact and easy to use, the tool can be ordered from wholesalers.

Solution 1: Using the vehicle-specific VW Passat B8 electrical kit (coding required)

- Hella-Gutmann tester with current software, if necessary with camera & sensor calibration tool (CSC tool - adjusting tool for driver assistance systems)
- User list of Hella-Gutmann testers for VW Passat B8
- Other activation devices may be suitable
Solution 2: Using the adapted VW Passat B8 electrical kit (no coding required)
Westfalia-Automotive offers the following adapted electrical kit for the VW Passat B8*. Please note that this electrical kit has limited functions and contains a "read" module only. This means that no information is sent back to the CANBus system and the vehicle assistance systems are not influenced or changed.
